Live Data for Professional Users
Investment professionals are unable to gain access to live data through OptionStrat at this time.
Who qualifies as an investment professional?
The Options Price Reporting Authority (OPRA) regulates the display of live options data, and has set the following criteria:
- Individuals registered or qualified with the SEC, CFTC, FINRA, NFA, any state securities agency, any securities exchange/association, or any commodities/futures contract market/association.
- Engaged as an investment advisor.
- Employed by a bank or other organization that is excempt from registration under Federal and/or state securities laws to perform functions that would require you to be so registered or qualified if you were to perform such functions for an organization not so exempt.
Why can't professional users receive live data?
Exchanges and regulatory organizations like OPRA charge a different fee for market data displayed to non-professional individuals and professional users, and these fees would require charging significantly more for professional users.
Can I still access other paid features?
Yes, If you are a professional user, you can still sign up for a paid plan to gain access to additional features, but live market data cannot be enabled for your account.
If you are interested in paying more (an additional $30 fee per month) as a professional user to gain access to live data, please contact us so we can register your interest in expanding our service to professional users.
What if I am not a professional?
If you were classified as a professional user, it may be because you did not check all of the checkboxes when signing the non-pro agreement, or your name came up as a professional when verifying your agreement (as required by the exchanges). To undo this, we will need some supporting evidence to provide to the exchanges. Please contact us so we can get your account corrected.
